Prominent Indian and Pakistani Urdu writers will attend first Kahani Mela (story festival) to be hosted in Dubai on May 17. The event, featuring a Shaam-e-Afsana (story-reading session), will be presided by Waris Alvi, noted Indian critic, scholar, while renowned Pakistani short story writer and TV playwright Mohammed Mansha Yad, and leading columnist, poet and playwright Ataul Haq Qasimi will be guests of honour.
Being organised by Adab Dost, a local literary society, event to be held on May 17 will mark launch of Dubai-based author Najmul Hasan Rizvi's new collection of Urdu short stories, Oxygen and an anthology of TV columns, Maazrat Key Sath. Others who will read their stories include Ashraf Shad, Islam Azmi and Pir Mohammed.
Waris Alvi and Mansha Yad will arrive here from Doha, Qatar where they will attend Majlis-e-Farogh-e-Urdu Adab's annual award ceremony and International Mushaira on May 14-15. They will be honoured by Majlis for their literary achievements with cash prize of Rs 150,000 and a gold medal each to an outstanding Indian and Pakistani writer, which is awarded every year.
