Chairman Central Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) Bilal Mulla has stressed upon the government to take immediate initiatives for the improvement of law and order situation for keeping the economic wheel in full motion in the country.
In an interview with Business Recorder here on Saturday night he also underscored the need of bringing stability on political fronts for banishing the uncertainty in the country. Currently the industrial sector was suffering adversely due to the electricity load shedding, high tariff of Sui gas and telecommunication in the country Mulla said. The Prgmea Central Chairman added that due to high tariff of electricity, Sui gas and petroleum the cost of production was increasing day by day as a result readymade garment sector was confronting with multifarious problems.
The load shedding, high prices of Sui gas, telephone as well as law and order situation were correlated that are not only hindering production activities but also earning bad name and resultantly Pakistan was losing its creditability in global market he disclosed.
Under the prevailing situation of the country he said that international buyers are reluctant in delivering new orders to Pakistani firms because of electricity and deteriorated law and order as well as instability on political fronts of the country. The foreign buyers are reluctant to place new orders to Pakistani business community especially the exporters because they were fully aware that due to load shedding we are unable to deliver the export orders within stipulated period he added.
If the state of affairs remained the same the exports would be hampered badly he said. Mulla called upon the government to take immediate drastic initiatives for brining out the country from political chaos and electricity load shedding for safeguarding of the industrial sector of the country.
Mulla on this occasion demanded that Research and development support to readymade garments should be extended up to June 2011 for the larger national interest of the industry while loopholes of export policy should be removed.
