Sindh Industries department will organise a provincial convention for industrialists and businessmen of the province on May 13 at a local hotel. This was stated by Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Rauf Siddiqi, while addressing his first press conference as a Minister in the PPP-led coalition government at his office here on Tuesday.
He informed that suggestions would be invited from the industrialists and businessmen for incorporation in the coming Sindh budget on the one hand and addressing their problems on the other.
He pointed out that progress of any country is dependent on industry and commerce and many of the present day developed countries progressed only because of industrial revolution. Outlining his plans as Industries and Commerce Minister, Rauf Siddiqi said that in Karachi all industrial zones are fully functional today but steps would be taken for their further strengthening. The Minister informed that industrial zones are also being constructed at Dhabeji, Larkana and Khairpur and the department is in contact with their respective Nazims for land acquisition. He said these zones will be developed at a fast pace with the provision of modern facilities.
Rauf said that government is taking steps for promoting local handicrafts, which are sold by our craftsmen on very cheap rates but these fetch fatty prices abroad in dollars and Dirhams.
