Furniture traders on Tuesday called for a shutter down strike on Friday, May 9, in protest against the government for not arresting the murderers of a trader, Saleem Anwar Shaikh. Chairman of Karachi Furniture Dealers Group (KFDG), Muhammad Atiq Mir, said that the decision of shutter down strike has been taken during a meeting of all stakeholders, as police department failed to nab the culprits.
He alleged that police department is protecting the criminals who carry out daylight plunders and extorting traders at the business centers of Karachi. Moreover, he said that if the police do not arrest the killers of a slain trader after the strike, a long-march from Arambagh furniture market to CM house will be held to press demands, he said. He added that in the second phase of protest drive, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) would also be invited to join it.
