The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has upgraded the category of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET). In a letter received here on May 6, the Commission has informed the SSUET that its category has been upgraded from 'B' to category 'A' universities/institutions on meeting the cabinet criteria requirements relating to academic, financial, and physical infrastructure.
The HEC chairman approved the up-gradation on the recommendation of the committee, which carried out SSUET's inspection earlier. The recommendations were based on the basis that the University had made tremendous progress in different fields and its financial strength has risen from the required Rs 200 million to over Rs 1,300 million.
The working capital stood at Rs 740.114 million as against the required Rs 50 million and the financial endowment rose to Rs 260 million as against the standard Rs 50 million and tangible assets have grown to Rs 560.266 million as against normal Rs 100 million.
The SSUET has 10 computer, 18 electronic, 15 bio-medical and 10 civil engineering labs as against the standard one lab for each department. As per normal standards it was to provide scholarships and free-ships to at least 10 percent students, but, at present, the beneficiaries are 41.3 percent students and 11.5 percent of the total fee collected goes to scholarships.
