Leading insulin manufacturer, Eli Lilly Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, has donated 8000 vials of insulin worth Rs 4.6 million to the Diabetic Association of Pakistan and WHO Collaborating Centre as a humanitarian gesture.
The donation documents were presented by Cern Colakoglu, Managing Director, Eli Lilly Pakistan to Professor A. Samad Shera, Honorary President, IDF, Secretary General Diabetic Association of Pakistan and Director, WHO Collaborating Centre, at a ceremony to present insulin donation to DAP, held here at a local hotel.
The donated insulin would be distributed among the poor Type I diabetics across the Sindh province. In this regard an "Insulin Donation and Distribution Committee" has been constituted, which is chaired by Professor Abdul Basit, Director, Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology. Moreover, 25 BIDE trained diabetes care physicians, from all over Sindh have been nominated as coordinators, who will supervise the distribution of the donated insulin to the needy patients.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor A. A. Samad Shera appreciated and thanked Eli Lilly for exhibiting the corporate social responsibility by this generous donation. He mentioned that Diabetic Association of Pakistan is already providing insulin, free of cost to the Type 1 diabetics under 18 years of age.
However, the donated insulin would not be utilised either by Diabetic Association of Pakistan or by Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology and it would be provided to the poor patients through co-ordinators only, Professor Shera pledged. Cern Colakoglu reiterated Lilly's commitment for an unending support to the cause of diabetes care in Pakistan.-PR
