Experts at a national workshop on Wednesday recommended efficient utilisation of capacity building funds, supporting key elements of the Paris Declaration on Harmonisation and Alignment. The participants of the workshop on "Capacity Development for Aid Effectiveness" analysed successful case studies of capacity development in Pakistan.
The two-day consultative workshop involved presentation by representatives of 12 case studies selected during a series of interactive write-shops jointly undertaken by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in different provinces.
"It is important to have a clear understanding about capacity development needs, priority areas, and also what has been done and how to build on the work already undertaken by different organisations and donors," Peter Fedon Country Director of ADB in Pakistan said in his comments.
"ADB appreciates the Government of Pakistan's efforts to promote aid effectiveness. Effective use of aid funds is especially important in this period of accelerating food and energy prices," he added.
Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry, Additional Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) in his remarks reiterated the government's commitment to the Paris Declaration goals of increased harmonisation and alignment among donors and government. David Watson, the lead consultant conducting the study, provided an overview of capacity issues and observations raised in the series of write shops.
