Father, sons foil attempted kidnapping, extortion in Bath Island

KARACHI: An unpleasant incident occurred in Bath Island on Thursday. Two armed men tried to pull off a dacoity, which was foiled by the victims themselves.

The incident occurred when a man and his two sons Samar and Salim were going home after tuition in Bath Island. The three stopped to buy a new battery for their car stranded in the area, when an armed man forced himself into the car and held a gun at Salim in the backseat.

Samar and the driver were out of the vehicle buying the new battery while the other brother Salim sat in the backseat with the car on and the father in the driving seat.

The father got out of the car to rescue his son in the backseat but Salim had managed to overpower the man with the gun pointed downwards. Together Salim and his father managed to wrestle the dacoit out of the car. During the scuffle a shot was fired towards the ground due to which the father and son suffered slight bruises from the resulting shrapnel.

An accomplice came to save the dacoit but Samar and his father scuffled with the man who then managed to escape on a motorcycle.

The police came 30 minutes after the incident and took the armed man that the father and sons grappled with in the car to the Gizri police station.

The family is lodging an FIR against the criminals for attempted murder and kidnapping.

Both the culprits were Pathans from Swat and Kohat.

It may be mentioned that recently these elite areas of Karachi have become the target of such crime.
