The Hamdard Naunehal Assembly, Karachi chapter, organised a variety show comprising recitation of holy verses of Quran, naat, speeches, songs and skit. The function held recently also included exhibition of three documentaries, two from Hamdard and one from Pakistan Voluntary Health and Nutrition Association (PAVHNA) following a Dua-e-Said.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and Director, PAVHNA Rehana Rashdi said that the society was responsible for children who pick garbage and beg on streets. 'We give food, education and training facilities to about 14000 such children in our drop-in-centres built by the PAVHNA in Karachi to save them from being misused by criminal elements of our society', she said.
Further, she stated that since numbers of these children were increasing very quickly and five drop-in-centres run by the PAVHNA were not sufficient to accommodate them, more philanthropists should come forward and build additional centres. 'We have model of drop-in-centre and can help and guide them', she added.
Commending on the social services rendered by late Hakim Mohammed Said to the nation, she said, 'Late Hakim Said had good understanding of social problems and was trying to solve them as this was the only way to put the nation on the way of progress. The President, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan, Sadia Rashid, said, 'We all talk about children's welfare, health and education but our collective behaviour shows different picture and is not in accordance to our statements'.
Rashid said that we should earnestly work to provide the children with latest facilities of life, as they are the future of our nation. 'We could develop the nation only by improving the lives of our children', she added. Deputy Director Programmes, Hamdard, Hakim Mohammed Usman said that the late Hakim Mohammed Said had established Hamdard Village School, situated at the Madinat al-Hikmah, Karachi, equipped with modern educational facilities for its children.-PR
