Federal Minister for Communications, Qamar-uz-Zaman Kaira has said Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) was taking effective steps to ensure quality service to subscribers. Talking to PTV, he said the PTA has completed coverage of over 40 percent out of the specified 70 percent of the total country.
The scope has been enlarged to get more clear picture regarding the quality of service provided by the cellular companies. Kaira said PTCL was also striving to facilitate blind and mentally retarded children to make them effective citizens of the country. In this regard, many new projects were under process.
He told the basic theme of the telecom world-wide was:"Connecting persons with disabilities," to provide people with special needs with the right information to deprived community. He said, steps like deregulation of telecom sector, simple and liberal licensing regime, reduction in taxes and duties, tariff rationalisation, removal of bureaucratic hiccups and quality of service surveys are proved drivers of growth for the telecom sector in Pakistan.
PTCL management has also announced broadband inter-net facilities for its valued customers. The customers of PTCL can now provide services to their clients without undertaking large scale investment in infrastructure or developing expertise in running their own networks, he added.
He highlighted that the main focus is being laid on rural and remote areas to facilitate the rural masses. He said, PTCL is Pakistan's largest IP network, and it now presents phone net, the most convenient landline inter-net solution that converts your phone into a basic inter-net connection.
Under Emerging Markets Telecom, Information Technology, Infrastructure, Networks and Wireless, the company has not only grown itself, but also facilitated the growth of all telecom sectors in Pakistan, he said. Most service providers in each and every sector of Pakistan telecom sector have used PTCL infrastructure for their service provision.
He said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will remove all hurdles in the way of reinstatement of judges. PPP and PML (N) have some differences on the modalities for the restoration of judges, which would be removed soon, he added. He said the aim behind the judicial package is to bring reforms in the judicial system for quick and cheap dispensation of justice.
