The country would be deprived of its poultry stock if wheat, the basic ingredient of poultry feed, would remain out of their reach due to ban on its purchase from farm and open market.
This was stated by the Chairman Pakistan Industrial Traders Associations Front (PIAF), Mian Abuzar Shad after holding a meeting with a delegation of poultry industry on Monday.
The Chairman PIAF said that the poultry meat is the cheapest source of protein in the country and this industry need government's support. Criticising government decision he said that neither the government itself is providing wheat to the industry nor allowing to buy it from the open market, moreover, the administration has warned of putting poultry people behind bars if they found purchasing wheat from open market.
However, he appealed to the government to ensure provision of wheat to Rs 200 billion poultry industry to help it come out of crisis, adding that the industry is source of providing employment for about 1.5 million people. He said that in the month of April and May, the poultry industry heavily depends on wheat because other grains that constitute poultry feed are not available in these months.
