President High Court Bar, Mehmood Ashraf, President District Court Bar, Najaf Chawan and former vice president Pakistan Bar Council, Mirza Aziz Akbar have said in a joint statement that the struggles which originated from Multan in the past experienced a successful end.
The struggle of Pakistan National Alliance against Zia-ul-Haq was started from Multan and the current struggle for reinstatement of judges would also start from Multan on June 10, they said.
While talking to Business Recorder, they said that their struggle would result in restoration of judiciary and departure of dictatorship. They said that civil society members and political parties would walk shoulder to shoulder in the lawyers struggle.
They rejected the impression that Multan has been chosen for starting the struggle for restoration of deposed judges because the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani belongs to this city.
They strongly criticised the statement of the Prime Minister that the lawyers' struggle would be crushed down saying that the lawyers had play a vital role in bringing democracy back to the country enabling Gilani to become a prime minister.
They demanded of the PML-N leadership that they should also join the lawyers' struggle for restoration of judiciary like other APDM parties. Lawyer's representatives urged upon the rulers to respect people's mandate instead of strengthening the hands of dictatorship.
They said that lawyers would stage a sit in Islamabad after the long march in which millions of lawyers would participate. Moreover, a joint meeting of High Court and district court bar associations would be held on May 20 in which administrative committees would be set up.
