The Lahore High Court Bar Association has formed a committee to ensure the boycott of courts on Thursday, stopping bar members from filing urgent cases on Wednesday and appearing before the courts on strike day.
The committee headed by former Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari will monitor bar members who will appear before the courts on Thursday and their names will be displaced in the bar room. Their memberships would be cancelled if they were found to appear before the courts twice on strike day. The bar also asked the political parties, students, civil society and trade unions activists to join their struggle for restoration of the judiciary up to November 02 last.
The meeting held with its president Anwar Kamal was addressed by Ahmed Awais, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, Rana Asaad Ullah Khan, Pir Kaleem Khurshid, Wali Muhammad Khan, Mansaf Awan, Sayeda Feroza Arbab and others.
The bar members said the bar did not accept the judges who took oath under PCO and they would not appear before them in future on the strike days. They said lawyers should not file urgent cases on Wednesday so they could avoid to appear before the court on Thursday.
They said lawyers always fight for the rule of law and independence of judiciary and added they would continue their struggle for reinstatement of the judges. They said lawyers would neither accept any constitutional package restoring the judges without deposed Chief Justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry nor would allow the government to escape from the issue.
They condemned the action of the government to belie from its promise and to play delaying tactics to fulfil its promise to restore the judiciary. They said lawyers are united for their cause and appreciated President Supreme Court Bar Association Aitzaz for deciding not to contest elections.
