President High Court Bar, Mahmood Ashraf and General Secretary Rana Naveed have declared the long march of June 10, a historical one. They were addressing a press conference here on Tuesday after a meeting of the Joint Action Committee.
Mehmood Ashraf said that a large number of deposed judges and senior lawyers from Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab would participate in the meeting to be held in Multan on June 9. Ali Ahmad Kurd, Munir A. Malik, Rana Baghwan Das, Rashid Rizvi, Khawaja Sharif and others would address participants of the meeting, he added.
He appealed from the civil society activists and traders of the Punjab to observe a strike on June 10 and participate in the long march. He further said that eight administrative committees have been set up with the mutual consultation of the representatives of high court and district court bars.
He said that a meeting of the representatives of all the bars of southern Punjab would be held on May 26, regarding the long march. On the other hand, former President High Court Bar, Habib Ullah Shakir and President Peoples Lawyers Forum, Rana Javed Akhtar have said in a press conference here on Tuesday evening that lawyers should wait for the constitutional package instead of long march. They said that restoration of judiciary is the top priority in the constitutional package.
To a question they said that new constitutional package would reflect the desires of the people. He has refused to participate in the long march. He said that he wanted the freedom of the judiciary but the decision of long march is too early, we have to wait for some time.
