To further expand the existing academic facilities at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), a PC-1 worth Rs 626, 930 has been prepared to commission a new building for School of Nursing along with hostel. This was stated by Abdul Majid Rajput. Executive Director Pims, while addressing a penal of doctors and nurses here on Tuesday.
He said that International Day of Nursing marked on May, 12, 2008 has once again provide an opportunity to highlight the importance of nursing profession in terms of service delivery and quality care to ailing humanity. Strengthening of academic activities, monitoring and licensing through Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC), service structure notification, enhancement of pay scales are a few of the steps taken to ensure job satisfaction and ownership by the nurses.
"The changing environment has not only strengthened the nursing profession but also enhanced enrolment in nursing schools, which is a positive development as there is an acute shortage of trained nurses", he said. Kalsoom Akhter, Chief Nursing Superintendent Pims, stated that adequate academic opportunities and supervisory mechanisms were in place, thus ensuring not only career development but also a secure workplace environment.
