The Chairman, Election Committee, Old Ravians union, Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif has announced the schedule of the union elections for 2008-2010 to be held on June 22. According to the schedule, nomination papers would be obtained on June 2 and 3, 2008 between 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
However, the members will have to submit the nomination papers on June 4 and 5 in the union office from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM only, sources from the office of the Chairman told Business Recorder. The list of the candidates will be displayed on 5th June at 6:00 PM, they added.
Further, the last date for filing objections against filing of nomination papers and withdrawal of nomination papers is said to be June 7 and the final list of the candidates would be displayed on June 9.
As per the announcement, the candidates will have to deposit Rs 1, 000 nomination fee for every office along with nomination papers and any candidate can receive an authentic list of the registered members by depositing Rs 1, 000 in favour of the Old Ravians account being maintained in UBL, GCU branch.
The incumbent President of the union, Kamran Lashari constituted the election committee for conducting the elections for the session 2008 to 2010. The committee comprising Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, Professor Dr Muhammad Akram Kashmiri, Javaid Altaf Advocate and Professor Khalid Manzoor Butt approved using ballot-paper of old pattern.
It also decided that every voter will have to prove his identity either through national ID card, passport or through Old Ravians Union identity card before casting the vote. It was also announced that the new membership of the union would remain suspended from June1-8.
