The Chaudhry brothers have finally softened their stance and shown inclination to vote the constitutional amendment package, currently under preparations through mutual consultation between the presidential camp and "un-elected" leaders of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
Well-placed sources, close to the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q)'s leadership, revealed to Business Recorder that hectic consultations are underway to develop consensus on the proposed constitutional package. Due to efforts of presidential camp, the PML-Q leadership was getting closer with the Pakistan People's Party, the sources claimed.
The Federal Capital has become centre of all the political activities where all the stakeholders of political game are playing their cards. The PML-N leadership is playing cool and has adopted a wait-and-see policy.
They said that the coming days are very important and some significant political developments are expected to be appeared on political scene. The PPP is facing most difficult situation as on one side it intends to continue alliance with the PML-N, on the other hand some forces are active to create rift between them for their vested interests, they believe.
However, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N)'s spokesman Siddique-ul-Farooq on Thursday said the November 3, 2007 unconstitutional steps should not be given indemnity by the parliament. The PML-Q wants to accommodate the sitting judges while the PML-N had given a formula that the PCO judges inducted after November 3 could be accommodated as ad-hoc judges.
According to the sources, on Thursday, PML-Q's President, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein, formally announced to support the PPP. At Centre, the PML-Q would not join the government but in the Punjab it may become part of the government, if the PML-N part its ways with the present coalition, he told reporters.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussein and Hamid Nasir Chattha met President Pervez Musharraf a day before current political situation and future strategy, vis-à-vis constitutional package was discussed. Political analysts say the plan 'B' is ready under which the PML-Q may join hands with the PPP after separation, if happened, between the PPP and the PML-N. He said the political leadership must set a precedent to deter any usurpation of power in future.
He declined to comment on a proposed constitutional package, saying the contests were not yet known. He denied remarks attributed to the party chief Nawaz Sharif in some media reports that there was a rift in PPP over the issue of indemnity. "We have taken strong exception to it. Nawaz Sharif has never said this," he added.
