Korea's leading general trade company, the Hyundai Corporation intends to introduce Packaged Power Station (PPS) as a possible prompt solution to the prevailing power crisis. The General Manager and Country Representative of Hyundai Corporation in Karachi, Jin-Han Chung believed that this would quickly and effectively cater to the electricity needs and meet the energy shortfall.
He pointed out that the PPS is containerised and transportable diesel generator with auxiliaries to supply electricity and could easily be moved to any area where there is a need. Chung pointed out that the PPS is installed in a 40-feet container. It is easily installed with minimum cost and shortest delivery time and its lifetime is over 20 years. It can produce electricity at low production cost.
He informed the press that there are three type of units with per unit of output one MW, 1.5 MW and 1.7 MW that cover the supply of electricity to about 2,000 houses. Installation of large number of units in an area can build a big capacity power plant of up to 50 MW.
Further, the Hyundai representative claimed that the Hyundai product could help immediately resolve the power crisis here. He also maintained that this could be the immediate solution to the power shortages in Pakistan. Chung was of the view that the advantage of this system was an early power generation that would start within 10 months of reaching the contract.
Furthermore, he said that he approached the officials of the Sindh Government as well as those of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) in this connection. His company, Chung stated, would provide the units in accordance with the demand in Pakistan. He also pointed out that the approximate cost of a unit of one MW would be around one million dollars.
However, the Hyundai official admitted that the cost may be a little higher than the conventional power plant but the advantage of the PPS is of early power generation within 10 months of time.
