Institute of Horticultural Sciences (IHS) will hold one-day workshop on "Role of medicinal plants in poverty alleviation", a part of university-industry interaction project of Higher Education Commission (HEC), on Tuesday, May 27 at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF).
Dr Mubarak Ali CE, Punjab Agriculture Research Board will be chief guest and inaugurate the session of the workshop. Experts of medicinal plants Dr M. Aslam Gill, Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa, Dr Zahid Ashraf, Dr Shahid Mahmood, Dr Babar Ehsan Bajwa, and Chaudhry M Muslim will deliver their research findings related to topic.
Vice Chancellor, UAF, Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, will be the chief guest of concluding ceremony of the workshop on the same day. According to Director, HIS, UAF Professor Dr M Aslam Pervez the objectives of the workshop are to stop the depletion of natural resources, to check the decline of traditional medicine, to improve and institutionalise the trade of medicinal plants, informal and opportunistic, to develop and regulate sustainable wild harvesting of medicinal plants and to establish co-ordination among various stake holders such as government-private traditional medicine sector, processing industry, research institutes and NGO etc.
