There seems no respite in surge in some essential items' prices as suppliers/traders have turned deaf ear to the message authorities are trying to convey to them, despite world scenario depicting not as critical, some visitors to commodities wholesale market during the week ended on May 24, 2008, said demanding anonymity. Prominent variations were in masoor, sugar, urad, castorseeds Sindh, gur and dyes from China.
On Monday sharp rise in prices was marked. Masoor imported from Canada was quoted at Rs9,500 while other type was quoted at Rs1,005 and masoor dal low type was higher by Rs100 to Rs10,000 while the better one was down by Rs20 to Rs10,015. Urad from Burma inferior type was put at previous week's level at Rs1,750, while the other type was down by Rs50 to Rs1,900. Sugar surged by Rs50 to Rs2,400 while other type was quoted at Rs2,750. Castorseed Sindh was quoted lower at Rs1,000 while better was quoted at Rs1,025, cottonseed oilcakes with bag new shed Rs25 to Rs900 while the better type was down by Rs15 to Rs925.
Dyes in Jodia Bazar were marked higher such as reactive dyes from China (per lb) Golden HR seen at Rs100, yellow H4G ended Rs5 lower to Rs120, yellow FG rose by Rs10 to Rs100, orange H2R rose by Rs15 to Rs110.
On Tuesday not many fluctuations were received from local markets. A couple of price change was marked on the grain market where gur was up sharply by Rs200 to Rs1,600 while better type was marked higher at Rs2,500. Sugar rose by Rs50 to Rs2,400 while better type was quoted at Rs2,750, against generally declining trend being reported from the international sources. Though, they observed that overall heat is being felt by the lower strata masses. Several countries have experienced violence on this count.
On Wednesday commodities prices depicted ongoing trend, though world trend was relatively weak. Grain markets dealers reported makai as jumping sharply by Rs275 to Rs2,075. Juwar not lagging behind was higher by Rs20 to Rs1,900 while the other type was quoted at Rs2,000. Masoor Canada saw some correction as it was down by Rs700 to Rs8,800 while better type was marked at Rs9,900. Urad from Burma shed Rs50 to Rs1,700 while the other type was quoted at Rs1,850. Guwar low kind rose by Rs200 to Rs2,200, while the other type rose by Rs175 to Rs2,375. Guwar Punjab lost Rs100 to Rs1,550, better type shed Rs25 to Rs2,000. Irri rice white inferior was up by Rs200 to Rs2,100 while other type was up to Rs2,200. Cottoncakes with bag better type shed Rs35 to Rs960 while the other type was quoted at its last level at Rs900.
On Thursday prices maintained the surge. Makai gained Rs275 to Rs2,075, in sympathy, juwar gained Rs200 to Rs1,900-2,000. Masoor Canada drifted lower, shedding Rs700 to Rs8,800-9,900. Urad Burma followed suit and lost Rs50 to Rs1,700-1,850. However, guwar low type gained Rs200 to Rs2,200 and the best type was up by Rs175 to Rs2,375, guwar Punjab shed Rs100 to Rs1,550 and better type was lower by Rs25 to Rs2,000. Irri white low type, gained Rs200 to 2,100 and fine type was higher by Rs200 to Rs2,200. Cottonseed oilcake with bag better type was lower by Rs35 to Rs960 while the low type maintained its last level at Rs900.
ON JODIA BAZAAR CHANGES WERE:
RAW RUBBER CEYLON (per lb): Merryrub (equivalent to RSS3) went higher by Rs8 to Rs110, RSSV edged up by Rs8 to Rs112, Merryrub (equivalent to Pale Crape) moved upward by Rs31 to Rs128 and Pale Crape rose higher by Rs32 to Rs130. LATEX: Merrytax (28 kg) moved upward by Rs50 to Rs690, Semnan tax finished higher by Rs50 to Rs690 and Thai (G.T) closed up by Rs50 to Rs690.
Thin trading was seen on the grain market on Thursday as leading buyers were on the sideline due to higher trend in the rates, dealers said. Cottonseed oilcake with bag Punjab old gained Rs20 to Rs870-900, Sindh new better type was lower to Rs950 while the low type maintained its last level at Rs900. Sugar gained Rs50 to Rs2,500-2,800, gur followed suit and rose by Rs100 to Rs1,600-2,600.
Tea prices moved up on Jodia Bazaar on Thursday.
Changes were: BANGLADESH TEA (per kg): Garden pack (original) was quoted at Rs128. Gulab edged higher by Rs10 to Rs145. Khushbu closed upward by Rs7 to Rs135 and Garden pack/BOP finished up by Rs7 to Rs135.
On Friday no transaction was reported, as usual.
On Friday the trading on plastic moulding compounds closed higher.
The changes were: HDPE (FILM) (Per lb): Saudia 952 moved higher by Rs6 to Rs72, Mobil finished up by Rs6 to Rs72 and TR144 went upward by Rs5.75 to Rs71.75.
HDPE (INJECTION): Sabic 200056 finished up by Rs7 to Rs72, Mobil 016 moved upward by Rs7 to Rs72 and Iran moved higher by Rs8.50 to Rs72.
HDPE (BLOW): Kuwait went upward by Rs6 to Rs72 and Marlex closed higher by Rs6 to Rs72. LDPE: 374 edged up by Rs6 to Rs81, MG 20 moved up by Rs16 to Rs96 and MG 70 was quoted at Rs80.
LLDPE: W118 closed higher by Rs8.50 to Rs76 and 7087 edged up by Rs8.50 to Rs76.
POLYPROPYLENE (FILM): Thai closed upward by Rs9 to Rs75, Kuwait moved higher by Rs9 to Rs75 and India went upward by Rs9 to Rs75. POLYPROPYLENE (TAPE GRADE): India finished higher by Rs8.50 to Rs72.50, Kuwait closed up by Rs8.50 to Rs72.50 and Saudia ended up by Rs8.50 to Rs72.50.
POLYPROPYLENE (INJECTION GRADE): Saudia moved higher by Rs8.25 to Rs72.75, India closed up by Rs8.25 to Rs72.75 and Kuwait was quoted at Rs72.75. POLYSTYRENE: BASF moved upward by Rs500 at Rs3,900 and Pakistani was quoted at Rs3,872.
COPOLY: Block went higher by Rs7 to Rs73 and Randon closed upward by Rs9 to Rs84.
HIGH IMPACT (per bag): Pakistani was quoted at Rs4,144 and BASF was quoted at Rs4,200. ABS (per bag): Polylac 707 ended up by Rs400 to Rs4,600 and Iran edged higher by Rs400 at Rs4,500.
The bold and courageous measures by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), kept most of the commodity prices unchanged on the local grain market on Saturday. Only changes were in wheat and khandsari prices.
THE PRICES OF DYES MOVED UP ON JODIA BAZAAR ON SATURDAY:
The changes were: ACRYLIC DYES (Japan) (per kg): Red XLG 500 percent finished higher by Rs30 to Rs350, Blue XGPRL 450 percent went up by Rs20 to Rs450, Yellow 7GL 500 percent edged higher by Rs50 to Rs700. DISPERSE DYES CHINA: Rubine S2GFL 100 percent closed upward by Rs10 to Rs115. Rubine MGFL 100 percent closed higher by Rs5 to 105, Navy HGLN 200 percent went up by Rs25 to Rs120. Black EX SF 300 percent closed higher by Rs20 to Rs115. Red FB moved upward by Rs15 to Rs225 and Yellow G edged higher by Rs5 to Rs140.
