Lahore High Court Judge Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon has directed Sargodha police to register a case against management of National Sugar Mills (NSM) in the light of a statement of petitioner Muhammad Azhar, a cane grower whose payment had been blocked by the mill.
Former provincial minister Amir Sultan Cheema of PML-Q is owner of sugar mill. The petitioner said he was cane grower and he unloaded his crop to National Sugar Mills (NSM) in crushing season 2007-08.
He said in the initial stage the management had made payment but then stopped. He said he unloaded 110 trolleys in NSM of worth Rs 1663567. He pointed out that under the law sugar mills was bound to make payment to growers within 15 days of the delivery.
He said NSM management had also stopped the payment of other growers. He said he contacted mill administration time and again but they paid no heed to his complaint. He said he also approached the cane commissioner for redressal of his grievance but mills administration did not bother even to appear before him.
