Chief of the Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI) Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has suggested to convene a meeting of Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDA) to chalk out a joint strategy to resolve all the problems including judicial crisis after failure of the two major political parties.
He was addressing a press conference here on Monday after a meeting of parliamentary party meeting of JUI. He said that since the two major political parties, Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-N have failed to come up with an acceptable solution of the judicial crisis hence an immediate meeting of PDA seems to be crucial to hammer out a strategy to address the confronting issues.
"Instead of the two parties, all the political parties should play their effective role for upholding the supremacy of the Parliament and addressing the problems being faced by the masses", Maulana added.
He further said not only the November 3 action of President Musharraf was unconstitutional but the extreme step he had taken on October 12,1999 was also against the law and constitution which should also be condemned.
"If we demand to restore Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to his position, then we should also demand to restore Nawaz Sharif and Rafiq Tarrar to their pre-October 12, 1999 positions", he remarked. To a question, he said that his party has not yet received the draft of the proposed constitutional package of PPP, saying that Asif Zardari has promised to deliver him the draft till Tuesday.
He also favoured to empower the Parliament through the constitutional package and all the executive power be transferred to Prime Minister from President.
Maulana said that the problems would further aggravate if the lawyers stick to their guns to proceed their conventions, long march and movement. To a question, JUI chief remarked that if Pervez Musharraf considers himself as a civilian President then he must vacate the army house.
