Punjab Food Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran has said the Food Department has paid Rs 36.89 billion as cost of wheat to wheat sellers by banks so far. While on the procurement side, the department has received over 2.4 million tonnes of wheat.
More payments would be made according to the schedule, he said while presiding over a meeting to review wheat procurement. He said Rs 7388 million had been paid through National Bank of Pakistan. Likewise, Rs 6033 million through United Bank, Rs 5175 million through Muslim Commercial Bank, Rs 7250 through Habib Bank, Rs 7694 million through Allied Bank and Rs 3353 million has been paid through Bank of Punjab.
He said the department had received 24 lakh 89 thousand 62 metric tonnes of wheat. While discussing details, he said 245949 metric tonnes of wheat had been procured from Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur and Okara.
Likewise, 321470 from Gujranwala, Sialkot and Gujrat, 370903 from Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh and Jhang, 188098 from Sargodha, Mianwali and Bhakkar, 424101 from Multan, Lodhran, Vehari, Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Khanewal, 2963 from Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal, 352691 from D.G. Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajan pur and Layyah and 582887 metric ton wheat has been procured from Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.
