Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, has said that production of machine readable computerised registration books has effectively controlled fake registration of vehicles and any kind of forgery.
He pointed out that 17-year old As-400 computer system installed in the Motor Registration Wing has been replaced with IBM "I" Computer series which is seven times faster than the old computers. Talking to journalists at his office, Mukesh Kumar said that in future the vehicle owners will get printed details in the registration book as against manual entries made in the old book in which there had always been apprehension of forgery and manipulation.
The Minister said that Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Lahore have been brought on-line in order to check fake registration of imported vehicles. For this purpose, the Custom's computer system has been used. Under this new arrangement, he pointed out, it would be impossible to get a vehicle, registered in any other city through fake documents.
He said there had been lot of problems in relation to fake registration of imported vehicles. He said the new system has also been linked with National Bank and CPLC so that details about any vehicle are made available to both. He said Excise offices in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas have also been made online.
