Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to submit written reply on next Friday regarding the surcharge of Neelum Jehlum Power Project Development Fund (NJHPF) imposed on electricity bills.
More than 30 industrial units including Ayesha Spinning Mills, J.K.Tech. Limited, Hajra Textiles, Aashiana Cotton Products, Gojra Samundri Sugar Mills, Azam Textiles, Crescent Fibres Limited, A.A.Cotton Mills, Pioneer Spinning Mills Limited, Sohail Textile Mills, Sheikh Spinning Mills, East Pakistan Crome Tannery Shoes, Pak Panther Spinning Mills and Shahnawaz Textiles had filed their identical petitions and alleged that Wapda illegally included surcharge of NJHPDF in their electricity bills.
They added that they would be bound to pay the NJHPF surcharge till 2015 that would be unjust and unlawful while they requested the court to declare the surchrge illegal.
The counsel for Wapda and Nepra on Friday appeared before the court while Nepra requested the court to grant some time for the submission of detailed reply in this regard. Justice Syed Hamid Ali Shah accepted the application and directed Nepra to submit reply on June 06 while the hearing was adjourned till next Friday.
