Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) would defend President Pervez Musharraf if a resolution on his impeachment was moved in the parliament, former information minister Nisar A Memon told a news conference here on Friday.
Terming rumours regarding stepping down of Musharraf as continuity of the conspiracies being hatched against the country for the last two years, Memon said he would unveil at proper time the faces behind what he termed 'malicious campaign'.
"I have conducted a research on history of conspiracies against the country and I will share the details at some appropriate time to unveil the faces who want to create instability in the country," Memon said.
He said 'some people' were playing the role of agents to those powers, which want to destabilise Pakistan. Memon further said the present government was busy in introducing proposed constitutional package and other non-serious issues instead of resolving the real problems faced by the masses. Memon said that the ruling alliance has contradictory claims regarding number of MPs required for the impeachment of President Musharraf.
When his attention was drawn towards the news reports that a Turkish plane has arrived at the Chaklala Airbase to lift President out of the country, he said Musharraf can face any situation while staying here.
He said Musharraf had fulfilled the promises he made with the nation. But when his attention was drawn towards the past statements of Musharraf that he would quit if people voted against his policies, Memon could not give a clear reply. He said the image of the country improved in the comity of nations due to policies of Musharraf and suggested that presents government should continue the same.
Regarding postponement of the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Defence last week, in which officials of the US embassy in Pakistan were due to brief the panel about US aid to Pakistan after 9/11, Memon said the meeting was postponed on the request of Leader of the House in Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani.
