Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Qazi Hussain Ahmed said that we should make our policies according to our interests and not on the dictation of others. He said this while talking to reporters at the Punjab University's three day Book Fair 2008 organised at main corridor of varsity's New Campus concluded here on Friday.
He also said that organising a book fair is a good activity and it should be continued in future at the university with the cooperation of both students and university administration.
Earlier, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Qazi Hussain Ahmed was received by the PU Registrar Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan. A large number of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) activists were also present at the reception. However they did not chant any slogans on the occasion. Hundreds of people from different walks of life visited the book fair and purchased books on various subjects.
The three-day book fair attracted a large number of students, teachers, journalists, educationists, writers and people from various walks of life who purchased books on up to 5O percent discount prices. Later in the night the Punjab University administration arranged a special dinner in honour of publishers and booksellers, who had established their book stalls in book fair.
On the occasion, 150 representative of each book sellers and stall holders of the book fair were invited. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran and other senior faculty members were also present on the occasion.
It is important to mention here that in afternoon some activists of the University Students Federation (USF) also staged a demonstration against the IJT for its alleged plan to hijack the event. However following the intervention of PU officials the USF activists stopped protesting and dispersed.
The activists of different student organisations including IJT, USF and Insaf Students Federation (ISF) were seen roaming around the venue of the book fair. They also distributed pamphlets and stickers in order to encourage students to join their respective organisations.
Meanwhile talking to the Business Recorder PU Academic Staff Association (PUASA) president Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Salik criticised the university administration for meting out "humiliating" treatment to PML-N MNA Naseer Bhutta on Thursday. Dr Salik said the PU administration should have avoided any argument when the guest, Naseer Bhutta, wished to address the students.
