Traders demand a series of needed facilities to develop and make marble industry, established in Manghopir, progressive with improvement in its infrastructure, regular supply of electricity, provision and replacement of more than 100 electricity poles and 20 (PMT) transformers immediately.
Pakistan Marble Industries Association (PMIA), Sindh and Balochistan Vice Chairman Khurram Ibrahim, leading a six-member trade delegation, met with Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Director Distribution Jameel Gul in this regard. The delegation included former chairman Sana Ullah Khan, Syed Allah Jaan, Liaquat Hussain, Mohammad Alam and Mohammad Anwar.
The delegation, informed the KESC official about losses borne by marble industry due to power supply breakdowns, and said: "The established marble industry suffered crores of rupees of losses due to electricity load shedding. This caused delays in timely supply of national and foreign orders which had adversely affecteds exports. Increase in electricity tariff every now and then has also driven the marble industry towards destruction."
They demanded upgradation of power grid station for marble industries and supply of 100 poles, 20 transformers and customer service centres to improve infrastructure in Manghopir.
KESC Director for Distribution, while assuring full cooperation, issued orders right there and then for an end to load shedding, He said: KESC is compelled to cut off electricity supply due to shortage of production because electricity is not available to the extent and quantity that is required throughout the country. He said KESC was working on emergency basis to provide best service to its consumers and to have best infrastructure so that they got maximum facilities.-PR
