Malaysian experts will present papers on Palm oil refining in Pakistan at a workshop being held here on June 3. Pakistan Edible Oil Refiners Association (PEORA) in collaboration with Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is organising this workshop which would also be attended by the Director General, MPOB.
Though the concept of Palm oil refining in Pakistan is relatively new, it is a value addition industry and saves considerable foreign exchange as refineries import Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and refine it locally.
According to Pakistan Edible Oil Refiners Association (PEORA) Pakistan's consumption of edible oil is three million tons out of which only 600,000 tons is produced locally. This makes the holding of workshop significant.
