Governor NWFP Owais Ahmed Ghani has said the ongoing efforts of the government to ensure peace and normalcy especially in the certain parts of the country were though delicate, complicated yet, "it is manageable and it will be overcome".
He was addressing as the chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new Campus of Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology; a private concern, at Landi Akhun Muhammad in Peshawar on Friday evening.
The Governor said, Pakistan is situated at a very important geographical position and due to which we have been facing challenges, one, after the other since our independence. However, he added, the encouraging aspect is that after overcoming each new challenge, we have emerged stronger as compared to the past and this time too we would meet the success.
"Our's is an ideological state and though, there may be weaknesses in our way of working and system of governance yet its foundations are very strong and efforts are underway to remove the deficiencies", he said. Therefore, the Governor said, a great destiny waits for our nation. However, he added, to achieve the desired goals, a vast majority of our people should be highly skilled and qualified to properly avail the opportunities.
He said the government is following a well thought policy to focus on promotion of higher education and a lot of funding is being made for this purpose. The idea to develop this sector, he added, is to produce highly skilled and qualified manpower, which could have the ability to lead the nation at every level and in every field of life.
The Governor also described the role of educational institutions, working in the private sector as highly important in ensuring promotion of quality education as well. Pointing towards the students, the Governor advised them to have faith in themselves, country and its leadership. Since, he added, hardly 3 percent of the total population of our country could have access to higher educational institutions, therefore, they are enjoying a special privilege in this respect.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr Salim-ur-Rehman addressing on this occasion said that their institution took start with only 68 students in a single faculty in 2001 and today its total enrolment at the Campus, has reached to 1500 students in six faculties while 2000 have already graduated.
