Fish farming has become a profitable business in the province since the last many years due to active participation of private sector, loan disbursement on soft terms and increase in fish production through farming. This was stated by the Director General Fisheries Punjab, Dr Muhammad Ayub while speaking at a departmental meeting here on Saturday.
He said income of those associated with fish farming has increased and this industry is rapidly growing. He said 14 hatcheries and 29 nurseries units are running under the department and providing fish seed to the farmers. He said that over 70 hatcheries are also working in the private sector.
Dr Ayub also called for enacting strict laws to curb water pollution in order to reduce threat to aquatic life. He said fish not only provides protein but also help preventing various diseases in human body.
