Passenger train service between Badin and Hyderabad, which was due to start on June 2, has been postponed by railway on the plea of poor track condition on this section. The postponement was resented by people of Talhar, Matli, Badin and Tando Mohahammed Khan.
Earlier, on the special directives of National Assembly Speaker Dr Fahmida Mirza, the railway authorities took steps to restore passengers train between Badin and Hyderabad railway section for onward journey to Karachi. Former Divisional Superintendent, Karachi, Mir Mohammad Khaskheli is reported to have said that eight passenger trains would be run on this section in this connection on emergency basis.
He said that under a Rs 100 billion plan, 45 bogies with 4,500 slippers would be provided for Badin-Hyderabad railway section. Moreover, Mubeenuddin, who has taken over as Divisional Superintendent recently, visited Badin section, and told media that in spite of a weekly passenger train, the Pakistan Railways would run a passenger train on daily basis.
People lauded the decision, but when the railway authorities announced that due to technical faults, it was impossible to restore passenger trains immediately. Meanwhile, it is learnt that transporters are making hindrances in restoration of passenger trains services. Passengers said transporters, including vans, coasters and buses, were fleecing the commuters.
