The Security Council has condemned in the "strongest terms" Monday's terrorist attack outside Danish embassy in Islamabad that had caused numerous deaths, injuries and damage to buildings, including to a premises housing the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
In a statement read by this month's Council President Zalmay Khalilzad of the United States, the Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of that 'reprehensible act' of terrorism, and urged all states to cooperate with the Pakistani authorities in that regard.
The Council reaffirmed that terrorism constituted one of the most serious threats to international peace and security and that acts of terrorism were criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed. It reminded states that any measures they took to combat terrorism must comply with all their obligations under international law, in particular international human rights, refugee and humanitarian law.
