The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remains cheaper than diesel, kerosene and furnace oil, according to the LPG Association of Pakistan (LPGAP), a group, comprising licensed LPG marketing companies.
"In MMBTU terms and based on current consumer fuel prices, the LPG is Rs 1,213.30 per unit, while diesel is Rs 1,360.03 per unit, kerosene is Rs 1,216.26 per unit and furnace oil ranges between Rs 1,244.24 and Rs 1,356.73 per unit," said LPGAP spokesman Fasih Ahmed. "The LPGAP has consistently argued that all links in the value chain must have viable returns for the industry to survive and grow," he said.
He said the current LPG producer prices, including taxes, of Rs 45,878.10 per tonne or Rs 540 per 11.8-kilogram cylinder was the same as it was in January. "At this producer prices, the maximum consumer price, in the assessment of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), through its letter of January 3, 2008, should not be higher than Rs 63 per kilogram anywhere in Pakistan, except in Kashmir, Northern Areas and Fata where it should not exceed Rs 66 per kilogram," he said, adding that the LPG consumer prices are currently at Rs 55 per kilogram."
