Senior Plastic Surgeon Dr Ghulam Qadir Faiyyaz and his team of surgeons and doctors operated upon 87, under 10, children inflicted with cleft palate and lips at a camp organised by Al-Mustafa Welfare Society in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Al-Mustafa Welfare Society sources, giving details of the free surgical camp here on Thursday, said the congenital deformity among the children, severely compromising their capability to eat food or even drink liquids was rectified by a team of competent surgeons in DG Khan.
DG Khan, a comparatively less developed city in the southern Punjab is among the areas with strong feudal hold and where poverty abounds. The surgeons assured the resource-less parents that their team would return to them after a few weeks so as to re-examine the concerned children and to help out several other living in villages around the Dera.
Organisers said the surgeons had also agreed to conduct brief seminars so as to educate parents about the possibility to protect their children against deformities, which severely affects their life quality.
They mentioned that patients were offered the treatment absolutely free of charge and this not only included expenses related to surgical process but also the medicines. Surgeons had assured to ensure proper follow up of the kids who underwent the surgery.
