Armed dacoits taken away goods and valuables worth Rs millions besides cash and mobile phones in two different, what could be termed, daredevil dacoities. The first incident took place in Shah Faisal Colony No 2, where some 20 armed men equipped with sophisticated weapons including KK rifles, cordoned off a shopping plaza in broad daylight.
They made hostage the shopkeepers and customers present in the market, Shama Shopping Plaza, and looted all their valuables including gold worth Rs 8 million from seven jewellery shops. They also deprived all the shopkeepers and customers of their mobiles phones and wallets besides looting cash of some Rs 2 million from shops. After the incident, the dacoits easily managed to flee.
Following the incident, the affected shopkeepers, visitors and hundreds of area people staged a protest sit-in on Shahrah-e-Faisal against the incident. They resorted to sloganeering against the law-enforcers and government. Owing to their protest, traffic on both tracks of Shahrah-e-Faisal remained suspended for more than a hour. Later the protestors dispersed peacefully.
In another incident, more than a dozen armed men driving three trucks went to a godown at Yousuf Talpur Road in the jurisdictions of Mithadar Police Station and took away some 40 generators on gun point from the godown. In another incident, two children were burnt to death when a fire erupted at shanties in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 11 and turned them to ashes. The deceased were identified as one-year old Saima and one-and-half-year old Javed.
