A delegation of European Trade representatives based in Islamabad attended an economic seminar arranged by the French Trade Commission in Karachi. The delegation led by Tomas Niklasson, Counsellor EU for political Affairs, Trade and Communication comprised trade representative for Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Sweden etc.
During the seminar, Ms Ungela Siddiqui, Secretary General, Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) made a presentation about foreign investments in Pakistan. Tariq M Rangoonwala, President Pakistan for International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) also read a paper on the achievements and initiatives of ICC Pakistan. Barrister Zahid U Jamil legal expert ICC ciliated on the legal formalities for foreign investors in Pakistan.
Pierre Seillan, Consul General of France in Karachi, hosted a reception at his residence in honour of the delegation. Prominent business figures of Karachi, Abdul Kader Jaffer (Jaffer Brothers), Azher Hashim (Air France), Jamil Hamdani (CA Lyon), Mohammed Ali Tabba (Lucky Cement), Hassan Ali Khan (LU Biscuits), Jehangir Siddiqui (JS & CO), Riaz Siddqui (Infotel) as well as the Consuls Generals and Honorary Consuls of the EU countries were present to exchange views with the delegation.
Addressing the guests, the French Consul General underlined the four top priorities, defined by the President of the French Republic, which France will work upon after assuming the EU Presidency from July 1, 2008. The priorities include, Sustainable development and energy, European Pact on immigration and exile, Re-launching of the European Defence Program and State of health.-PR
