In occupied Kashmir, senior Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani has termed India as a Hindu state, where life, honour and property of minorities including Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are insecure.
He stated this in a telephonic address to a Sikh convention held at Golden Temple in Amritsar. He was put under house arrest by the puppet authorities to prevent him from attending the convention, KMS reported. Gilani said: "In India religious places of Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are desecrated and Golden Temple episode and Babri Masjid demolition bear witness to this fact."
He further said that Hindu chauvinists were the major impediment in the resolution of the Kashmir dispute, adding, "They are punishing Kashmiris for being Muslims and are not ready to fulfil their genuine demand. They are inflicting unthinkable atrocities on Kashmiris to suppress the freedom movement." The Hurriyat leader maintained: "Indian army attack on the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of Sikhs in June 1984 is the blackest chapter in the history of India."
The massacre of Sikhs in 1984 after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, the then Indian Prime Minister, exposed India's real face, he added. He pointed out that the massacre of 36 Sikhs at Chattisingpora in occupied Kashmir in March 2002 was the handiwork of Indian troops and the motive of the massacre was to malign the ongoing liberation movement.
