Central Leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafiq said on Friday that PML-N does not want the restoration of deposed judges to be linked with the constitutional package. Talking to a private TV channel, the PML-N leader said proposed package contains material to amend 80 clauses of the Constitution, most of which are mutually agreed between the two major coalition partners.
There are, of course some objectionable clause in the proposed package, which can be changed through negotiation, he added. He said it is a good sign on part of PPP to say that the package can be amended with the consultation of coalition partners. He was of the view that these amendments cannot be enacted unless the support PML-Q and others is sought, adding this would be the negation of people's mandate in February 18 elections.
He said in such a situation, the coalition partners would have to get a fresh mandate by the people. Khawaja Saad said PML-N will not accept giving indemnity to the steps of previous regime to save the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
He said the PPP has been striving for democracy so it cannot think of giving indemnity to these steps. To a question, he said the judges of superior judiciary can be appointed through merit as envisaged in the charter of democracy and they should have the power of suo-motu action.
He said the people are facing problems and if the political forces kept on wasting the time on other issues, they will fail in addressing them. The PPP being a major coalition partners has more responsibility in this regard, he said. He called for convening a round-table conference of the politicians to deliberate on important national issue.
