Muzaffar Hussain Gardezi has cautioned the government that the country is fast heading towards 'economic tsunami', and called for drastic corrective measures. "The rulers are not serious about the erosion of rupee and plunging foreign exchange reserves. There has been 200 percent increase in the prices of essential commodities," he charged.
He described the prevailing law and order and security and economic situation as alarming. He proposed to the government to hold consultations with all political parties on how to avert the dangerous situation. He said the power tussle between the ruling class had increased after the introduction of the district government system.
He said this system was started without approval of parliament and the federal government interfered in the affairs of the provinces through this system. He pointed out several flaws in district government system. He said that in the absence of district ombudsman, corruption could not be checked, while the weak institution of the public safety commission failed to redress problems of the people.
He said this system was an attempt to bypass the political system and shatter the confidence of the people in political parties. He said the National Reconciliation Bureau (NRB) was established with the funding of foreign donors, and the foreign donors were architect of the salient features of this system. He said that the district government system had been imported from Turkey.
In his opinion it is a system of confusion rather than the system of devolution as was claimed by its authors. He said this system added to the miseries of the masses, as nobody knows who is responsible for solution of common man's problems. He called for abolishing this system. He further said that changing this system was the need of the hour. He said this system was introduced for achieving personal designs of some people.
