With several sugar industries and factories, the country has a great potential to produce and use ethanol as an alternative environment-friendly energy source. This was stated by the Director Botanical Garden and Herbarium of the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Khairpur, Professor Dr Raza Bhatti in his scientific presentation at a session held at Guddu district Kashmore here on Friday.
Dr Bhatti said that ethanol could be easily produced by fermenting bio-waste and molasses generated by sugar factories. "Only a few industries have been producing ethanol so far," he said, adding that production of ethanol on a large scale would not only help reduce pollution but also control unnecessary burden on national economy.
