Sindh minister for home and forests Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza has warned the Station House Officers (SHOs) of strict disciplinary action against whom any report about employing inordinate delay in registration of First Information Report (FIR) was noticed or received.
These directives he gave while presiding over a session on law and order, organised by Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FPCCI). Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Shahla Raza and IG Dr Shoaib Suddle also attended the meeting as guests of honour.
Zulfiqar Mirza said policing was being upgraded under a proper and defined strategy and informed, only those officers had been posted, who had met the criteria of professionalism, good reputation and public-oriented attitude. The supremacy of law shall be made a reality with the reforms being initiated in police department in shortest possible time, he vowed.
IG Dr Shoaib Suddle, in his address, underlined the importance of concept of community policing with special reference to responsibility of citizens. He stressed that each member of society should realise his due individual role and help police combating crimes.
He said efforts were afoot to bring people and police nearer by introducing various reforms and initiating community policing projects. Suddle spelled out practical problems relating to health, education and salaries of police personnel and maintained 'serious' steps were being taken to upgrade living standards of policemen. This will surely improve their performance, he observed. Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza and CPLC chief Sharafuddin Memon also spoke.
