Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman has directed the concerned organisations to develop inter-departmental cooperation and liaison for effective implementation of Prime Minister's housing program so that provision of housing facilities to the needy people is made possible.
He was talking to Federal Secretary Housing and Works, Sami-ul-Haq Khilji, on the occasion of a presentation given on behalf of the Ministry of Housing at his office here on Friday. In the presentation it was explained that Prime Minister's Housing program envisages (1) provision of housing facilities for government employees, (2) construction of low-cost houses, and (3) residential arrangements for those who do not have the capacity to construct houses.
The proposed housing facilities would include D-Type apartments of 900 sq feet, E-Type Apartments of 700 sq feet, F-Type apartments of 576 sq feet and 5-marla 'row houses'. It was pointed out that plans include the setting up of Federal and Provincial Housing Authorities at Federal and Provincial levels and District Housing Committee at District level.
A presentation was also given by 'Taameer Micro Finance Bank' in which it was stated that the Bank is preparing a policy for providing loans from Rs 0.2 million to Rs 1.8 million to low-income people for construction of low-cost houses.
This program will be implemented with the joint venture of private sector investors and builders with government cooperation. The Chief Secretary apprised the Federal Secretary about housing culture background in Sindh and suggested to him to chalk out the policy in this backdrop.
Additional Chief Secretary, Development, Nazar Hussain Mahar, Secretary-General, Administration, Rizwan Ahmed Khan, Secretary, Works and Services Dr Fazlullah Peechuho, Secretary, LU Dr Siddiq Memon, CEO Taameer Bank Nadeem Hussain, Director National Construction Athar Nawaz, Chief Engineer PWD Ali Akbar Shaikh and other officials were also present on the occasion.
