At least four children were killed in an explosion in the Chitral district, police said. The children died in the blast were in the age between 10 and 12, police officer Khalil-ur-Rahman said.
The police officer said that the incident took place at Garam Chashma area, some 20 kilometers from Chitral city, on Sunday evening, when the children were playing outside their home and the explosives went off. District Nazim Syed Maghfirat Shah said the children were using dynamite for fishing but it exploded, killing the children at the scene.
However, an official said that the explosives were planted and exploded when one child passed on it. There had been a big arms depot in the area during the invasion of Afghanistan by the former Soviet Union, the official said and it might be an old unexploded device of that period.
