Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Aitzaz Ahsan has said the long march has began with the departure of lawyers' caravans led by deposed judges with their wives and it will concluded with the restoration of judiciary as it was before November 02 last.
In his speech in a press conference, Aitzaz said a big caravan of lawyers of Sindh led by Justice (r) Wajihuddin, Justice Fakharuddin, Justice Rasheed A Rizvi, and Justice Munir Malik and their respected wives has left for Sukkar where after a night stay this caravan will leave for Multan and it will be welcomed by deposed chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Aitzaz said, "It will be purely a non-government long march for the restoration of the judiciary and deposed judges and the PML-N government in the Punjab will neither support it nor lawyers requested it to extend any help." He praised a decision by the PML-N government to provide protocol of chief Justice to Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
He alleged that obstacles were being created on the instructions of the chief Justice of the Sindh High Court who took oath under the PCO for the Long March caravans and held it condemnable on the part of Sindh government and PCO judges of the Sindh.
Aitzaz said the general pubic and members of political parties were welcoming Long March caravan, showering Rose petals on them.
After participating in Sukkar convention the caravan will move for Multan Convention on June 10 addressed by chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He said the chief Justice will see off the caravan in Multan for Lahore on 10 June night and he will leave to Lahore by air.
Aitzaz said he himself will come with caravan from Multan to Lahore by road. In the meanwhile, Ali Ahmed Kurd will lead the caravan from Quetta. All caravans of lawyers will reach Lahore. On June 11, chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry address a joint meeting of LBA, LHCBA, SCBA at LHCB premises.
He said the caravans from Peshawar, Questta and Abottabad, Azad Kashmir, Sanglan will leave for Islamabad on June 12 and reach at the same time to join the caravan of Lahore at Faizabad Rawalpindi which will reach before Parliament House for sit in and the final show. He appealed to Lahore participants of the long March including the activists of the political parties and civil society groups to remain calm and peaceful in the Long March.
