Four police personnel were killed while another received injuries when some unknown armed men unexpectedly attack a police mobile during wee hours of Monday in Mathani, the suburban locality of Peshawar bordering federally administered Frontier Region (FR) of Kohat.
According to police sources a mobile police was on routine patrolling on Kohat Road when unidentified gunmen ambushed them near Waziristan Filling Station on Kohat Road. Four police personnel killed on the spot while the Station House Office (SHO) was seriously wounded and rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for treatment. The busy road connects southern district with the provincial metropolis.
According to police sources, the armed men also put the vehicle on fire resulting in burning the bodies of the police personnel. The armed men reportedly escaped towards Tehsil Bara of the Khyber Agency where the law enforcement agencies have started hunt for them.
Mathani is bordering restive Dara Adamkhel were a number of attacks on police check posts and patrolling personnel have been reported in recent past. Such attacks have claimed number of life of the police personnel.
It was second such kind of attack on police personnel during last three weeks. In such kind of attack in third week of May, three police personnel including an SHO and his driver in Nasirbagh another suburban area of the city were killed in an explosion.
The NWFP Governor, Owais Ahmed Ghani has strongly condemned the killing of four police officials at Mattani in Peshawar and four children in a bomb blast at Garam Chishma in District Chitral, the other day and expressed his deep shock over the loss of precious lives.
In a condolence message on Monday, the governor while expressing his heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved families has assured that the culprits involved in the tragic incidents would no more remain at large and will be brought to court of law shortly. He has also prayed courage for the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with patience and eternal peace of the departed souls of the deceased police cops.
