The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that serious measures were being adopted to control over the flour crises and hoped that shortly the situation would be normalised. He said this while talking to media men at the residence of Syed Amir Ali Shah Hashmi at Matiari last night where he arrived to attend the reception in his honour by Syed Amir Ali Shah Hashmi.
Responding to a question, the Sindh Chief Minister said that these crises had been arisen during the previous government due to their mismanagement and poor market mechanism. He said that the wheat procurement is started in the mid of March, but then caretaker government did not procured the wheat according to the season thus created huge short fall in the market. He said that soon after taking over government we started procurement and achieved 87 percent of the fixed target till yet. He said that it is international phenomena and whole world was experiencing food crises, as such the wheat prices in neighbouring countries including India and Afghanistan was Rs 800 per mound and Rs 900 per mound respectively as compared to Rs 510 per mound in Pakistan. He said this trend of prices created incentives for traders and hoarders, who after hoarding wheat here, sold it abroad on high prices to earn many.
He said that our government keeping in view such situation has taken multi-dimensional steps including increasing the wheat prices up to rupees one hundred per mound. It constituting price control committees with Magisterial powers to curb the hoarding practices and importing 2.5 million ton wheat to fill the gap in between demand and supply in the market and hoped that shortly the situation would be totally under control.
While replying a question about forthcoming budget, the Sindh Chief Minister said that it would be totally different then the budgets presented by other governments and added that it would be complete one in all terms and definitely beneficial specially for common people.
He said that two type employment programmes would be launched to provide the jobs to the unemployed youths besides Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme would also being launched from 1st July 2008. Replying another question about opinion of Bar Associations for re-instatement of the deposed Judges, the Sindh Chief Minister said that there is no difference in between government and Bar Association on the re-instatement of the deposed Judges, but only modalities were being discussed in between all stakeholders to achieve common cause.
He said that after the long struggle of 11-years we came into power and have to solve many crises but according to the constitution. He said that National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was not for any specific party or group but it covers all the cases registered against politician after 1985 irrespective of their political affiliation.
Earlier, the Sindh Chief Minister when arrived at Matiari, thousands workers of Pakistan PPP welcomed him aimed the slogans and clippings in favour of PPP. The Sindh Minister for Agriculture Syed Ali Nawaz Shah, Sindh Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Makhdoom Jamil Zaman and other public representatives and PPP leaders were accompanied the Sindh Chief Minister during his visit at the residence of Syed Noor Shah and Syed Amir Ali Shah Hashmi at Matiari.
