Arrangements have been finalised for administering polio drops to children up to the age of five in Bajaur Agency during the three day vaccination campaign starting from Tuesday (today). During the vaccination campaign, a total of 212,000 children will be administered polio drops, informed Agency Surgeon, Dr Jehanzeb while briefing the newsmen in Bajaur Agency on Monday.
He said in all a total of 593 teams have been constituted out of which 536 are mobile while 41 are fixed teams and 16 are transit teams. Dr Jehanzeb said about 1,300 officials of health department and World Health Organisation (WHO) are taking part in the vaccination campaign while 145 are supervising the activity.
He said that there is no obstruction to polio campaign in Bajaur agency. Earlier, some elements opposed the activity, but with the cooperation and guidance of religious Ulemas and tribal elders people are now showing no resistance to vaccination campaign. Dr Jehanzeb added that one year earlier, the number of Polio refusal children was around 5,000, which has now reduced to 2,500.
