CIA Police have arrested 24 "hardened criminals" involved in a string of kidnapping for ransom, robbery and car-jacking cases and seized looted property worth Rs 5 million and weapons from their possession.
DIG Investigation Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhaira while addressing a press conference in his office here on Monday said the accused kidnapped a businessman from Modal Town and a minor boy from Shalimar area some time ago and freed them after getting ransom money. They also shot dead a woman in Nishter Colony area some days ago during a dacoity attempt, he added. The accused have confessed to be involved in 52 heinous crimes during preliminary interrogation.
Giving details, the DIG said that Capital City Police Officer, Muhammad Pervez Rathore directed all the SPs to launch a vigorous campaign against criminals especially involved in kidnapping for ransom and dacoity cum murder. He said that a number of teams were constituted for this purpose under the supervision of SP CIA Muhammad Umar Virk comprising DSP CIA Modal Town and DSP CIA Cantt and other officials which traced the hideouts of the criminals and arrested them.
He said that Zubair and Kamran along with Kashif and Kalim kidnapped a trader namely Umar Khayam from Modal Town and released him after getting 1.5 million ransom while other three criminals abducted a seven years old boy, Zohaib, from Shalimar area and released him after getting ransom of Rs 4 lakh.
Similarly, the culprits also shot dead a woman, Zareena Bibi, in Nishter Colony who offered resistance during a dacoity some 10 days back. The police teams also arrested Iftikhar alias Acchi, a notorious proclaimed offender, who was wanted by Iqbal Town and Ghaziabad police for a long time.
The police recovered Rs 750,000 cash, 110 tolas of gold ornaments, seven motorcycles, two cars, 32 cell phones, five drums of telephone wire worth, 12 pistols and bullets from their possession.
The arrested were identified as Muhammad Asif alias Munna, Tahir Chand, Muhammad Umar Naeem, Ali Khuram, Mubroq alias Farooq, Iftikhar Ali, Zulifqar Ali, Shahid Kalim, Muhammad Usman, Muhammad Jahangir, Imran, Tariq Mehmood, Sanaullah, Muhammad Farooq, Khurshid Bibi, Asia Bibi, Zakia, Shahzad Masih alias Moota, Zubair Ahmed, Kamran Javeed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shahzad Masih, Pervez Masih and Patras Masih. Capital City Police Officer, Muhammad Pervez Rathore has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police raiding teams. SSP Investigation Zulifqar Hameed, SP CIA Muhammad Umar Virk and SP CRO Jahanzaib Nazir Khan were also present on the occasion.
