Pakistan Teachers United Front (PTUF) has demanded the government to accept their 12-point charter of demand otherwise they would start 'Jail Bharo Tehreek', moreover, PTUF has decided to observe the day when federal budget will be presented as black day.
These views were expressed by the teachers from all four provinces during the demonstration held here on Monday against current price hike, and they marched towards Parliament House from Aabpara Chowk chanting slogans such as "Asatiza par Reham Karo", "Humein Jeene Do."
Addressing the demonstrators, teacher leaders from all provinces said that if their 12-point charter of demand was not accepted they would have no other option but to bring 800,000 schoolteachers of the country to streets. "We need an honourable livelihood for our children and if denied we will protest", they said.
Moreover, they pledged to continue indefinite hunger strike outside Parliament, though after passing 150 hours no government official so far has visited the camp. In its 12-point charter of demand PTUF has asked the government to consider the unprecedented price hike and give 100 per cent raise in their salaries, and also demanded uniform pay-scale, teaching allowance and house requisition for teachers through out the country. Mobility allowance of Rs 1,000 should be given to the teachers, they added.
The charter also demanded to hand over the education department back to provincial government instead of district governments. Teachers should be given special Eid allowance equal to basic pay.
They demanded end to contract jobs and re-employment of retired people, besides representation of teachers' bodies in preparing education policy and syllabus. In addition, they demanded to end interference of retired military men, politicians and NGOs in education institutions any more.
PTUF also demanded establishment of Teachers Foundation in all provinces, which should be used for the transfer of welfare funds. Fifty per cent concession to children of teachers in admission and fees, besides 20 per cent quota should be fixed in employment and admissions in technical colleges and universities for their children. They also demanded end of ban on teachers organisations in Sindh.
The demonstrators led by PTUF leaders including Raja Zafeer Satti, Abdul Ghafar Kudezai, Rana Sultan Mehmood crossed the barrier of barbed wire at D-Chowk for a protest sit-in in front Parliament House. They decided to hold protest rallies on June 12. They will go further till their demands were fulfilled.
